In this article, we will show you how to install Audacious on Ubuntu systems.

Audacious is a free and open-source audio player software with a focus on low resource use, high audio quality, and support for a wide range of audio formats. It is designed primarily for use on POSIX-compatible Unix-like operating systems, with limited support for Microsoft Windows. Audacious is the default audio player in Ubuntu Studio, and was the default music player in Lubuntu until October 2018, when it was replaced with VLC.

Install Audacious on Ubuntu-APT method

Follow the steps below to get started with Audacious :

  • Update your Ubuntu system packages with running the below command:
sudo apt update -y && sudo apt upgrade -y
  • Audacious package is not available on the base repository. So You can install it via importing PPA repo as follows:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/apps
  • Run the command below to reflect on PPA
sudo apt update -y
  • Then install Audacious as shown below:
sudo apt install audacious audacious-plugins -y

Access Audacious

  • You can search on the system search bar by typing Audacious as follows
  • Audacious will be launched as shown below

How to Remove (Uninstall) Audacious

  • Remove Audacious APT Method
sudo apt autoremove audacious --purge -y
