TeXworks is free and open-source application software, available for Windows, Linux and macOS. It is a Qt-based graphical user interface to the TeX typesetting system and its LaTeX, ConTeXt, and XeTeX extensions. TeXworks is targeted at direct generation of PDF output. It has a built-in PDF viewer using the poppler library; the viewer has auto-refresh capability, and also features SyncTeX support (which allows the user to synchronize the PDF viewer position with the source, and vice versa with a single click).
Install TeXworks on Ubuntu-APT method
Follow the steps below to get started with TeXworks :
- Update your Ubuntu system packages with running the below command:
sudo apt update -y && sudo apt upgrade -y
- TeXworks package is not available on Ubuntu base repository. So You can install it via importing PPA repo as follows:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:texworks/stable -y
- Run the command below to reflect on PPA
sudo apt update -y
- Then install TeXworks as shown below:
sudo apt install texworks -y
Access TeXworks
- Access TeXworks through the command line by running the command
texworks
- Also you can search on the system search bar by typing TeXworks as follows
- TeXworks will be launched as shown below
How to Remove (Uninstall) TeXworks
- Remove TeXworks with APT Remove Method:
sudo apt autoremove texworks --purge
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:texworks/stable -y
