Introduction

Plesk Panel is a commercial web hosting and server data center automation software. In this article, you will learn how to install Plesk Obsidian on CentOS / RHEL 8.

It’s a centralized Control Panel.

You can build and manage multiple sites from a single dashboard. You can also run updates, monitor performance and onboard new prospects all from the same place.

Plesk, with latest version Obsidian 18.x, is available in the following license configurations:

  • Plesk Web Admin Edition: Up to 10 domains. For basic management of simple websites, without the extended tools and features.
  • Plesk Web Pro Edition: To manage up to 30 domains. It also includes Plesk WordPress Toolkit full-featured.
  • Plesk Web Host Edition: Unlimited domains. The administrator can also create additional reseller accounts.

The license price also distinguishes whether a license can be used for a dedicated server or a virtualized server. Licenses for dedicated servers are usually slightly more expensive.

Plesk sells all three licenses for a monthly or annual price directly. All three editions can also be obtained from official license resellers. Detailed Plesk pricing is available on their official website.

[root@unixcop ~]#

So Plesk Panel has been installed successfully

Note

The URL above at the end of installation will be used to access Plesk Obsidian for the first time.

Note

the PSA service may express a problem in startup, so you have to check the systemd service unit for PSA .

Also start it with the following command then check if it is running or not with the systemctl status command.

[root@unixcop ~]# systemctl start psa.service
[root@unixcop ~]# systemctl status psa.service
 psa.service - Plesk Panel
   Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/psa.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
   Active: active (exited) since Tue 2021-08-24 09:00:58 EDT; 44min ago
 Main PID: 33013 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
    Tasks: 0 (limit: 6242)
   Memory: 0B
   CGroup: /system.slice/psa.service

Aug 24 09:00:58 recursing-mendel.156-217-118-33.plesk.page systemd[1]: Started Plesk Panel.
[root@unixcop ~]#

For me there is no problemes.

If the status of PSA service is dead or inactive then edit the PSA systemd unit with editor.

# vim /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/psa.service

and change type from one-shot to simple as shown below.

[Unit]
Description=Plesk Panel
Wants=sw-cp-server.service sw-engine.service
Wants=mariadb.service mysql.service
After=network.target mariadb.service mysql.service

[Service]
Type=simple
RemainAfterExit=yes
ExecStart=/bin/true

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Then reload daemon to start PSA service now with below commands:

# systemctl daemon-reload
# systemctl start psa.service

Also check the status of PSA service again. You will find that PSA service has been started successfully.

Configure Linux Firewall

Plesk Panel runs on HTTP port. for this reason you need to allow it in Linux firewall with below commands:

[root@unixcop ~]# firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=http
success
[root@unixcop ~]# firewall-cmd --reload
success
[root@unixcop ~]#

Access Plesk Panel

Use the URL provided by Plesk installer that we mentioned in the above Note to access Obsidian web interface.

Then provide contact info, set the password for admin user and select license type. (option: Proceed with a full-featured trial license) as shown below.

Plesk is setting up Plesk Panel for you.

With successful configuration the Plesk will redirect you to Introduction page as shown above.
